I read this back in 2007 before my Goodreads.com days. I don't have a review of my own, but I came across the following review from PageADay Book Lover's Calendar for 1/02/13 and decided to post it here.
Mariam and Laila are two women who should mean nothing to each other. Raised in utterly different circumstances in Afghanistan, they are thrown together by betrayal, need, and war. The result is a friendship that will save them both, and give potent testament to the plight of women in the country. That would be enough to justify the reader’s time, but Khaled Hosseini tells their story with so much drama and suspense that you won’t want to put this book down. A THOUSAND SPLENDID SUNS
