The Pillars of the Earth - Ken Follett This is another book read before my Goodreads.com days, thus no review of my own. However, here's a short review from my 2013 PageADay Book Lover's Calendar that reminded me of the book:

Ken Follett manages to turn the story of building a 12th-century cathedral into a spellbinding and suspenseful novel, and how he does this is something that needs to be read to be believed. Drawing characters from the grotesque to the heroic, Follett does a deliciously good job of bringing us right into the wild and wooly world of medieval England. Don’t be put off by the book’s length—consider it a bonus.
